One of the things that is vitally important to any long term relationship is maintaining a level or transparency and openness that prevents you from falling into the trap of taking one another for granted.
I've observed over the years that people who are "good friends" will often times go for weeks or months without really investigating the heart of another person simply because they feel like their friendship would automatically bring such things to the surface.
The truth is that sometimes we really do need to be pressed just a bit or given a specific opportunity to open our heart to one another.
I know that my wife and I, though we have 40 years of relationship together, still must make time to really open our hearts because it doesn't just happen automatically in the rush of life.
This is true in everything from a small group to a care ministry. Resetting relationships is just part of what it means to really care for people beyond the surface and is something that Jesus made time to do and so should we. How are you doing on this one!?
Blessings,
