In reading throught he story of King David, I've come to see more clearly than ever that God allows difficulties, struggles and pain to shape our character in ways we cannot see until long after they occur.
If you're struggling with something right now, be encouraged that something very good will surely come to pass in your life because of it.
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28)

An interesting truth dawned upon me, after listening to Pastor Doug's sermon about the failings of King David. Here was a man who had a unique relationship with God, lordship over a kingdom, and the respect of a nation. Yet he risked it all by his relationship with Bathsheba.
When he attempted to cover up his sin by ordering the death of Bathsheba's husband, Uriah, he fell even deeper into the darkness. Even at this point, he seems unaware of the state of his soul. Not until Nathan, the prophet, confronts David, does he realize the horror of what he has done.
Doug pointed out that David suddenly found himself in the same position his predecessor, Saul, had been in.
But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul. 1 Samuel 16:14
David is instantly broken and appeals to the LORD not to remove his presence. David confesses his sin and cries out for forgiveness.
This is the difference.
Saul never did this.
This is why David is referred to as a "man after God's own heart."
David's lowest and bitterest moment had become his finest hour because he fell down before the LORD in humility.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart,O God, you will not despise. Psalm 51:17
