My short visit at a local GNC store turned in to quite an interesting "life lesson."
The sales person was unusually friendly with a customer in the store who was on the way out and when she turned to help me she did so with an unusual amount of positive engagement.
It's interesting how quickly the fact that someone "likes what they're doing" gets transmitted through the way they approach you in a relatively confined situation like that. She was neither pushy or intrusive; but she was enthusiastic about some potential products I might be interested in and most especially she was more than "willing to help in any way."
I had noticed that she had mentioned to the person who had just left to "hug their wife that night" and I thought that was either very personal or perhaps a little odd.
When I asked her why she enjoyed her job so much, she simply responded that it was because it gave her an opportunity to meet with people every day and to let them know, in some small way, how "important other people are to them and to God." Then she went on to recount how her husband had died rather unexpectedly the previous year and how God had given her grace to go on despite this enormous loss.
It's too much to tell in one brief report, but what's normally a 3 minute purchase ended up being a 15 minute conversation and a profound lesson in how some people are able to bounce back from life's most difficult losses because they have their heart and eyes on the right things.
Blessings!
